We got a bit of a late start heading out, but finally pulled out of Sonora, California at 9:30pm. We headed south, following highway 99 down from Merced. I slept on and off while Thomas rocked out to every heavy metal song that came on the radio. We rolled into Bakersfield shortly after 1am in the morning, got fuel and checked into a Best Western my dad recommended.
